I would like some new shirts(!), and was wondering whether Harvie Hudson was better for the price?

Couldn't comment on that as I have no experience (sorry I know it's a typo but couldn't resist). These two comprise the majority of my shi(r)t wardrobe. I have many more Lewin. Most here will say that H&H are better and they are right but that is based on individual weighting. The one thing that I have taken away from SF is that if something is ill-fitting then you can throw all the rest out. Lewin slim-fit shirts really fit me well. I know of no other place that has such an excellent selection of slim fit 15.5/36 shirts. So I love them. I've more recently purchased H&H. They are great shirts. But my only comparison is with H&H regular vs. TML slim-fit - a bit of apples vs. oranges. The H&H colars and sleeves (particularly) are more stiff than Lewin. I've had to have them taken in at the sides. They also tend to have more material in the upper chest. So if you have a massive chest you may like them, but that's my main complaint. H&H just posted a bunch of slim-fit shirts and I jumped on them.

Thankyou. I'm rather a skinny chap myself, and will definitely be needing a slim fit.

Jimmy,

I have lots of shirts from lots of different makers, german, italian and english. I make a difference between more expensive shirts like barba e.g. worn for pleasure and "beater"-shirts in which Lewin and H&H fit. For quite a long time I did not order from Lewin because lots of people did not hold them in high regard, here and elsewhere. That was a mistake! I have like ten or so H&H -shirts, some bought four-five years ago, some bought this january in London. The shirts from H&H differ quite a bit in workmanship, materials used for interlinings and even collar shape. Just recently I decided to order from Lewin (last december). The onlý mistake I made was not to listen to some of the people here saying that their collars run a bit tight. So I had to go from 15.5 to 16 and exchange them. Since that I ordered and bought in London like another 12 shirts. All of them are their Windsor slime fit style. Now fit is most important to me. So that is a clear point for Lewin here, but says nothing about quality. The workmanship and sizing is much more consistent with Lewin IMHO. They both use non-fused collars and cuffs, both are double-needle stitched. Lewin uses plastic buttons, H&H thin troca buttons. Now problem for me, I just bought nice MoP buttons and had the plastic ones replaced with them on the Lewins. With the buttons and the cost of labor for the replacing I am still under the price of the H&Hs. So for me it reads like this:
fit: Lewin
workmanship: Lewin
construction: equal
materials (cloth): H&H by a nose
materials (buttons): out of the box H&H but see above
Staff in London Stores: Lewin (surprisingly)

But, you really have to try both to see what you like more...

Regards Ollie

If you're as skinny as I suspect, you will need the TM Lewins taken in at the sides/sleeves as well. I have mine taken in about 1.5-2" in circuference in order for them to fit properly. Their "slim" fit is really not all that slim.

I tried on some TM Lewin today, and the cuffs were about 1 inch too baggy on my wrists, and the slim fit is not all too slim fit you are correct.

This thread has been epic for typos.
Sorry I can't offer anything constructive. I just ordered my first Lewin.

Thanks!

With the weak pound and reasonable shipping rates, Lewin represents the best value to me outside of ebay and B&S of course.

Only had one H&H shirt - it might have been marginally better than the TM Lewin's, but not worth the price premium IMO. I'm very happy with TM Lewins quality/price ratio.
