I started with the word "icon," but that didn't seem quite right. Guru, inspiration, ideal. Who has influenced your sense of style the most?

To whose sense of style style do you aspire?

Please only choose one person, and explain why in no more than 3 sentences. Please keep it short & simple.

I'm going through an Yves St. Laurent phase, based on a professor who insists I bear him a strong resemblance. He certainly had impeccable style when he dressed classically, with subtle touches of personality and a really deft hand at combining patterns. He wore a lot of wild stuff I wouldn't touch, and lots of his more classic stuff was too much of its time, but in terms of a sense of pure style? Solid gold.

That's likely to change, of course, and I dress much more American than he ever did.

With as much modesty as is possible, I am my own inspiration.

Hmmmm....good questions

I can't say a specific person who i looked at saying to myself " i want to dress like him". I was motivated to start dressing up because there was a couple of instances where I went out with my girlfriend and realized I was so under dressed. My girlfriend is big on fashion and I kind got to me.

Several SF members inspired me more than anything to be honest.

It is not always a person who inspires you but the dress up most of the time do the magic spell on you.

Doesn't inspiration need to come from some external source? Something about self-inspiration seems wrong to me.

I saw La Dolce Vita and 8 1/2 in high school, so definitely Marcello Mastroianni. My grandfather, too, certainly—he had a closet full of custom suits and shoes, and I still wear some of his ties.

i feel sorry for anyone who only has one influence. How limited. There are far too many interesting styles to explore.

I cannot limit any "influences" to one particular individual. However, I have drawn inspiration from Michael Caine in "Get Carter" to JFK. I've even been inspired from women like Muffy Aldrich. I've drawn inspiration from fabrics and colors as well. You can gather a lot of ideas and creativity by keeping and open mind and stopping to smell the roses every now and then.
