lol big C, that tie in pic #1 is RLPL. they do a lot of purple, durr, sometimes maybe unnecessarily and certainly unconventionally, but i like it.

no idea who DC is, will google tonight. hopefully he is hawt.

thanks! i think #3 is my fave of the set.

I think I'd like #1 alright if it were a kind of purple over check, but alternating between black and purple makes for too much purple. Of course no purple at all better still.

I've got no problem with houndstooth for non-country ties though. Houndstooth wedding ties seem to be well accepted.

Well, I guess I understand that, but its really barely noticiable at a few feet out.

Also, I have more than enough standard houndstooth ties to make room for one with some purple. :)

    :(

While I get the sentiment, there is plenty of interesting or even good news out there that's not terribly hard to find. Besides, being an informed member of the public is a classic requirement for being in good taste.

The purple/black grenadine weaves that Hober sells are fantastic.

One hand, dark and sober and soporific. But when the light catches it and the purple comes out, it looks fantastic and full of life. A really top notch purple tie.

Experimenting in SF group think. Complete coincidence that the same tie appears in two of the three. It was not planned that way. Thoughts?

I'd like the SC fabric in 1) better as a suit.

In 2), the patterns on the tie and square are clashing to my eye. They're too similar. In color as well as pattern.

Also I think that pindot tie should be worn with a business suit.

Same comment re:patterns on 3) although a little better since tie dots are widely spaced. Don't like bright red silk squares in general though.

In both 1) and 2) trousers would be better if a little lighter IMHO, but it's not bad. In 3) tones are too close. Are 1) and 2) trousers worsted? They look quite smooth. Flannel would be better IMHO.

1 is a light flannel, 2 is summer weight wool. Er, now that I look at it again, I think it was worsted, yes. Was a few days ago.

The PS in 3 is actually a burnt umber, of sorts. But I don't like it either. As soon as I stepped outside, without any hope of going back inside, I regretted it.

So the trousers in 1 do not provide enough contrast? I would not have anticipated that.

I prefer my spots low in density, so I won't get behind the first tie. But the second is nice. The two first ensembles illustrate the perils of mating gray with gray: the first coat is too dark; the second is fine but, as a consequence, sits too close to the trousers in tone. Further observations: I think the second shirt collar works much better on you than the button-down (which seems to tower over your jacket collar by a good inch or two); the gorge on the first sports coat (suit jacket?) is a hair too low.
