I tend to dress conservatively, particularly when dressing for work and hence lean toward solid or small patterned shirts, but I like this. I also don't wear squares much, so I don't really have an opinion or intuition on what works. Love the tie.

Not feeling that one, foo. I don't like the square on its own or with that tie. And I think the tie needs to be darker to stand up to the suit and the stripes on the shirt.

in stitches - your best effort yet. Boring but in a good way.

Foo - not feeling this one, hate the tie and whats up with that square? That's about as unFoo as I've ever seen...

This tie and the burnt orange tie I posted earlier in the thread dont seem to be well received. I think it may be the way the colors come through in the picture, I really like both of them. The burnt orange is a wool challis from Drakes, this one is a 36oz Drakes madder. I agree that the square and tie pattern doesnt work.

Here it is with flash instead of natural light.

Stitch - its not too bad but I don't think the coat and tie work that well together. Overall a little too much muddiness. Do you have a tie that's more of a forest green?

I wouldn't wear this in front of a client but on days when I'm just cranking things out at my desk all day I like to wear this kind of stuff.

Yeah, I don't think floral medallion motifs should be repeated like that. They are too specific. Really, repeating patterns should be limited to the absolute basics, like stripes and checks.

This is my favorite so far. I bet if the blue in your shirt and green in your tie weren't so washed out in the photo, I bet it would be really fantastic. I like that the dominant color of your square does not literally reflect any other colors in your outfit.

EDIT: The corrected photo you posted makes the outfit look great.

Color combination works better than previous attempts. But I am held back by the odd-looking odd jacket--is it flannel? Also, there is a lot of equally micro-rough texture going on between your tie and jacket, which is then echoed very exactingly by the micro-check of your shirt. It would be better to vary the scale.

whnay - wow. i think you should dial back on the p/s's for now. they are throwing almost all your fits off. also i'd wear the teal tie primarily with summery suits/sports coats ... sandy linen, maybe a tan cotton, but that might even be pushing it. its a pretty bad color for a tie.

i do like the tie today though, but its width is incongruous with your lapel sizes and would have been really lifted up with a different shirt. it also clashes with the p/s.

    one man's opinion.

Edit - with the flash the tie does look great with the shirt. I retract that piece of my comment.

    FooFail?

As an interesting data point, the tie was a Luca-aided pick. I really love it. It's a super conservative, business formal tie, except that it is brown and light bluish silver instead of straight-up silver.

Bill, the square was a concession to you. I thought you'd be flattered.

Foo- what about the diamond pattern you repeat between tie and ps in #2 of your "old ones"? I'm not trying to "call you out" or whatever, just interested in your thoughts on that choice given that we seem to agree on the general principle. You think the different spacing rescues it?

Thanks nii, I'm purposely going a little crazy on the squares to experiment a little. BTW - I can't believe all the hate for the teal tie. It's so $$$ IRL. Oh well...
