I rarely button my coat actually. I do when it's really cold if there's a particular need for formality.
Shirt is a very light blue and PS is a light beige. You may be able to see colors better if you click on the pic and load the (embarrassingly) large photo

I agree with those above about WAYWRN becoming a circus of bright colored socks, tan shoes and red shoe laces. The style is definitely adolescent and I don't understand how grown men can embrace such a childish look. It's as if they are competing for attention. Even Allen Edmonds seems to be cashing in on the look-at-me craze with those routinely gaudy "Web Gem" designs. Of course I am a nobody with no pics so I guess my opinion has no merit.

any pictures even pictures of stitches (excluding memes) are more beneficial to this thread than those last to pages of argy-bargy.

I'd love to see a rule that states that you can post any picture you want as long as it is not of yourself. the good taste thread should not become a "x-poast" thread.

in this spirit, how is this for good taste (banis):

On the above I like everything except for the shirt. Everything else looks warm, heavy and casual, especially with the patch pocket, like a proper country outfit for the winter but the shirt says summer time in the city with the light blue check and thin weave. I'd prefer a more substantial weave like oxford cloth and some color that evokes the countryside. I really like the jacket and tie though.

Stiches posting here isn't preventing anyone else from posting. Realistically, if he and the remaining members here weren't posting, this thread would just die off, like thousands of other good threads have over the years.

That said, this thread is no longer about people posting things and declaring them to be good, it's now become people posting things to ask if what they've put together is good. Which makes me wonder how this differs from WAYWT. Are people posting there not with the implicit question of "is this in good taste?" Not that there's anything wrong with a thread changing direction. That's happened with every other thread on here, after all.

In any case, if this thread isn't serving its original purpose, I think MC could use a good WAYWT digest. Vox used to do one, and GDL now maintains a not-so-oftenly-updated one. Perhaps someone could maintain a best of thread, updated weekly, of the best looks culled from MC (and maybe even SWD). I think that would give what the lurkers here want.

This. The point of the thread is to post and learn. You know what? I learn something when stitch posts fits and they either work or they don't. We all benefit.

The flame wars are what hurts this thread, not people posting fits.

Except for the sock color flame war between Manton and Foo, that was just epic

Ding ding ding, we have a winner! This has essentially become the WAYWT thread for a few posters.

As always, well said, and you raise some very good ideas and conversation points.

I think the difference is that in this thread there is just less noise. The pics are almost all good, not taken on smudged bathroom mirrors, and the fits are usually either "in good taste" or close too it, needing only a few small tweaks. And there is an understanding that if you are told your fit is lacking, you deal with it like an adult, no whining, and move on to the next.

Has it become a repository for myself and few others to often post a chest shot from their WAYWRN? Yes. But i dont think that is bad neccessarily.

Manton, whnay and foo have all stopped posting fits, and gdl only does on occasion. And iirc the stated purpose of the thread was for people to post if they thought they were in good taste, and they would be simply told yay or nay, and maybe even why. I think that is still happeneing.

Would a digest be better? Might be, but there are 2 inherent difficulties with a digest.

    1. It requires the author to be dedicated to reading WAYWRN and to be dedicated to updating his thread, and it needs to be someone of the quality to know what belongs in the digest. That is not an easy task.

    2. Unlike this thread, a digest does not really lend to people other than the OP posting fits and asking about them, its just a collection of best of that is decided by the OP.

That is not to say a digest is bad, on the contrary, digests can be excellent. Just that its different than what this thread does, and more difficult to maintain as the responsibility lies on one, not many. It might benefit the lurkers, but I dont think it could supplant this thread.

Should the people who regularly post/x-post here, myself included, just stop posting here and let the thread die? Maybe, but what good would that do? Its not a bad thread is it? Maybe im wrong, maybe the thread has lived its life and like you said, should fizzle out like so many other good thread. Its certainly an option, what do others think?

The trick is finding the person who has sufficient credibility for others to take the thread seriously, the enthusiasm to update it regularly, and the stones to prune it ruthlessly. Basically, the love child of Manton, Stitchy, and :foo:.

EDIT: I should have known Stitchy would beat me to it. :D

Personally I don't x-post here as if it was WAYWRN, expecting constant feedback or approval. I post here when I think I've put together an ensemble that is somewhat above my average, mediocre outfits, expecting some harsh critique from valuable forum members, to learn what works and what doesn't. WAYWRN critique is usually more benevolent.

For me as a lurker in this thread, it has still a lot of potential - take a look at all the interesting discussions that have happened, some in recent weeks. From the top of my head:

    1) The pocket square selection from the beginning of the thread
    2) The tastefulness of PoW check as a sportscoat fabric
    3) The epic sock discussion
    etc.

I think people should be just less impatient :) Posting fits here will keep the thread in people's minds (and subscriptions lists), keep it from dying, and from time to time, there will be a useful discussion from which can everyone, including the lurkers, benefit.
