(3) unless wearing black tie, white shirt plus white square is an auto-fail, even if many will argue it is 'correct', and

The noble gentleman has not looked, deeply, enough at nature if he believes this to be the case.

Everything else is on point. That outfit is what's wrong with America.

 You must be joking

No. I've said it a thousand times before. You might as well match your socks to your trousers, too.

Just imagine, the only thing you'd ever have to worry about picking out is your tie.

I agree that white shirt and square shouldn't be a habit or the status quo, but within a minimalistic look it can be pulled off quite well, IMO. Think mid grey flannel, black knit tie and black gunboats (a la Thome Browne, minus the horrific cropped fit).

Struggle does not make an outfit good.

Looking good does that.

Differentiation in all things is itself a form of sameness.

No one should ever wear the bolded items.

Think you're completely off-base with the anti-knit tie sentiment. The other two are debatable, and better thought of at their best than at their worst.

In a universe where no two things are identical, it's the appearance of sameness that suggests struggle.

Except when it comes to Aldens?

Is this the Brian Leiter influence?
