No. I've said it a thousand times before. You might as well match your socks to your trousers, too.

Just imagine, the only thing you'd ever have to worry about picking out is your tie.

I agree that white shirt and square shouldn't be a habit or the status quo, but within a minimalistic look it can be pulled off quite well, IMO. Think mid grey flannel, black knit tie and black gunboats (a la Thome Browne, minus the horrific cropped fit).
