The cloth is casual or at least un-business enough that I don't think three-piece would further limit its use.

With all that's going on with the cloth already (mottling, multiple windowpanes), peak lapels seems like one bell / whistle too many.

Perhaps this is why southerstyles refuses socks. Too complicated.

I'd match the square to the tie before matching the socks to the tie.

Though I wouldn't really do either since maroon socks are cheesy.

Who has the time for decisions like matching socks in the morning?

I simply took those out of the equation by having 90% dark blue socks and maybe 10% charcoal socks in my sock drawer.

    i lol'ed.

i saw 22 new posts knew something interesting must be a foot.

foo - aside from the fact i do not think your analogy is necessarily on point, i dont see any reason not to wear a light blue shirt with a blue jacket. i even recall you complemeting such a fit in the past. iirc it had a blue tie as well. maybe 1 fit from vox and another from someone else. either way, same color socks and pants can be fine.

    that is all. :)

Would you wear a light blue jacket with a light blue shirt? A light blue shirt and navy jacket work because of the contrast in brightness.

Usually suits and trousers are relatively dark. So, unless you want to wear lighter colored socks, you are left with the option of changing the color. Of course, if you happen to be wearing lighter colored trousers, you can wear socks that are a similar color but much darker. I wear navy socks with my light blue summer suits.

What? Really? The distance between sock and tie is much greater, so any matching color would be better distributed. Also, there tends to be much greater difference in material and texture between sock and tie.

It's easy. Burgundy or brown socks with navy trousers. Navy or burgundy with charcoal trousers. Any of the above with lighter grey or blue trousers. Never brown with black shoes. No grey socks ever.

I'm surprised Foo doesn't like socks matching trousers. It would seem like something he would like.

I generally wear charcoal trousers and generally pair them with navy socks.

I've been vocally and violently vomiting on them for years.
