Khaki socks with khakis. I rest my case.

Incontrovertible proof you are fallible. Also, the whole thing about wearing Philip IIs for black tie.

Man, I'm happy :foo: isn't the sartorial regent. I do like having him in the sartorial cabinet, though. Sort of a Team of Rivals thing... :D

You want a weak, indulgent ruler who encourages loosey-goosey standards? Fine, I guess I'm not for you.

with a dark suit (blue or gray) same color socks are fine, one of the oldest rules in the book: socks match pants not shoes. Personally i prefer not to do that and i never wear solid socks at all, but I will wear say navy ground patterned socks with a navy suit.

Just so I'm clear: Lincoln is the weak, indulgent ruler who encourages loosey-goosey standards? In all seriousness, your feedback is quite valuable, even if I ultimately don't agree with all of it. Plus, if you were the ruler, I'm afraid I'd be limited to one shoe.

Seriously, folks. Let's think about this.

Would you ever wear a shirt or tie the same color as your jacket? What about your pocket square? Would you ever wear a navy blue one with a navy blue suit? What about your belt? You can find leather in all sorts of colors these days. Why aren't we all wearing navy and grey belts with our navy and grey pants? Any of those things would look asinine. So do socks that match your trousers.

We consciously ensure every other accoutrement and accessory does not match the suit or trousers we're wearing. Why on earth should socks be an exception? It's not like it's hard to do otherwise. If you had nothing but solid navy, brown and burgundy socks, you would need nothing else and die a happy man. Sock-wise, at least.

It is a fundamental error in logic to compare like things to unlike and to extrapolate from one to the other.

The shoe+sock+pant combination is fundamentally different in placement and purpose from jacket+shirt+tie. So different rules apply.

I usually wear navy-ground socks when I'm wearing brown shoes and grey-ground socks with black shoes.

The only time I ever wear sold socks are with black tie.

Yes, it is an oft-repeated rule.

I remember a rule that said black people had to sit in the back of the bus.

No, the OneShoe is my own privilege.

Ah, but then it's incumbent upon you to demonstrate that they are fundamentally different. I see no real difference and have yet to hear a good argument in favor of one existing.

You disagree with navy suit/navy tie for UCBD?

How long until matching socks are compared to Goebbels? Manton, don't leave now. It's just getting good!

    :D This is reassuring.

    Wait, you smell that?

Nothing. It's his preference. Of course, if losing points in the eye of Foo causes you angst, stick to navy or maroon. That's not to say he doesn't have a good eye for certain things.

Shifting the topic a little, and remembering the not necessarily positive reaction to windowpane jackets: could I have this flannel as a three-piece blazer suit (possibly with peak lapels?).
