You know what's in good taste? Not showing people a close-up, in-focus shot of your beard. It's gross. Post a smaller image like sugarbutch does! in stitches is really funking up my scroll on this page.

Re: institches' puprle jacket, I don't think it's good to pair dark pants and black shiny shoes with that tweedy jacket and OCBD. Too much fuzz on top vs. sleek on bottom.

Od/Ot's last outfit made me cringe.

Ian's photos are inoffensive in a good way, congratulations, this is great.

Sugarbutch's last photo is great. I am always a fan.

    suck it

fair point on the shoes i wore with the purple POW, but the pants are a nice navy, not very dark, and quite flanell-ey and fuzzy, just didnt show in the pic.

stitches - that is a summer tie - would look better with a cotton khaki suit or a navy linen suit.

thanks, nii. maybe that is why it was marked down to 20 bucks, lol. just got it sunday and wanted to wear it. sadly, i dont see myself owning either of those suits, despite their awesomeness.

that being said, the combination i chose, despite the seasonality issue, ok in your opinion?

Rats. Well, at least I guessed the provenance of the pocket square (easy one).

As an aside, can we agree that the term "pocket square" is insuperably dorky? No wonder the majority of the population steers clear of the things.
They need a rebranding, something like RoboHanks, to make them more approachable.
There's something very poindexter about the rigidity that the term "square" evokes. It's unseemly. When you go to the store, it's awkward for everyone: the clerk says "and over there we have -ahem- some... pocket squares," while averting his eyes. It makes the whole thing feel like the porno section of the video rental store.

Has this always been the English term? How long has it been around? I guess it is at least better than the Japanese term, which is pocket-chief, pronounced not as in handkerchief but like cheef. While pocket square is dorky, there's something disturbingly anthropomorphic about having your own little "Pocket Chief" taking residence in your breast.

Can't really see it, but the suit is navy blue flannel, shirt is light blue/white stripes, tie is navy with floral patterns. Would have been in better taste with darker shoes I guess.

yeah darker shoes would have been better - and the drape of your pants needs some help too.

IS - seasonality has an impact on whether something is good taste. I know that you have said you are not at a stage where you can have a seasonal wardrobe but you would be better served in your purchases by doing so. For instance both the blazer and tie are decidedly spring/summer while the flannels and suede shoes are decidedly F/W which results in a discord in the outfit. I recall that in the summer you were wearing what appeared to be a flannel suit. Start grouping things by season to fill in your gaps and your wardrobe will become more coherent.

You seem to be progressing well in colour/pattern combination. I think getting seasonally appropriate is the next step.

Manton said orange with white looks terrible, and I have to agree. This would have worked better with a pale blue, as most things...

awesome. thanks for the tip. maybe i should have worn my worsted blue SC and a navy wool tie, but that would have been a totally different outfit. :)

good idea though about the grouping. i think that i have enough now that i could successfully do that most of the time. much obliged.

and thanks for the compliment about my progressing.

manwho? have not seen him around for a while.

i was actually gonna wear blue. but its rosh chodesh. i wear a white shirt on rosh chodesh. :)

ps, i still do like orange and white. ;)

I am interested in your non-support - your second paragraph seems to agree with me in general if not in specifics. But maybe I'm mis-understanding? My original suggestion of 7 or 8 might be a little bit over the top but...I think 5 at the least. You'll want at least one white, probably one BC and one FC. At least one light blue spread collar and one light blue BD. And at that point, I'd prefer to have a couple more shades of blue before getting any shirts with patterns. Just my 2 cents/advice I wish the current me could have given an earlier me.

Yes, "pocket square" is a dorky term. I like "pochette" but googling of the term doesn't provide enough support for its use in this context for me to feel comfortable using it. I like the way Vox uses "hank" and "hankie" but I have felt self-conscious when I have used them. So, I'm left with...
