For some reason a pinstripe suit and a shantung tie seems discordant to me. I don't know if others feel this way though. Really a shantung tie and any worsted suit seems wrong to me. The contrast in textures and formality is too great for me.

Well, the whole point was to play around a bit with textures and formality - in the same way that I often wear cashmere ties with pinstripes in autumn and winter. That said - may be pushing too far

I laud your pioneering spirit. Cashmere ties look fine with worsted to me, but they look much better with flannel. Shantung ties require linen or cotton if it's a suit IMHO, or at least a brighter color. But I would be interested to hear other opinions.

I wouldn't wear either cashmere or shantung with a suit unless it was a more casual suit, i.e. shantung with cotton/linen or cashmere with flannel/tweed. Only exception being perhaps a bold prince of wales or windowpane worsted.

Not sure what you mean by this?

I meant I wouldn't wear such things if I wanted to stay coherent, but that doesn't mean you can try playing with textures and formality, as you said - I just don't dare doing it.

That's an interesting tie, R-O-T, where does it come from?

Lovely tie, and also really like the lapel and shoulder on that suit
