Planning wedding party dress. Was considering white tie but not tails? Is this frowned upon, merely acceptable or generally welcomed by the tuxedo Gods?

Five button white vest?

Go for it. Post pics. One guy who does this look is grimslade.

I second the frown, although I am no God and so can not smite you for even contemplating such a thing. White tie = tails. Nothing wrong with black tie if you don't want to wear tails (but who doesn't want to wear tails at every opportunity?).

And please, no white shoes....

I'm not a "Tuxedo God," but attempting to hybridize white tie and black tie apparel will look like nothing so much as a ghastly rented wedding costume.

Why do you hate young people?

Is it the lack of Attic Greek and Latin?

Why are you considering wearing a white tie with semi-formal evening dress? Merely to be novel? Historically, this is what waiters and servants wore at events to distinguish them from guests.

Well, black tie is the bastard child of full evening dress and the lounge suit.

I like to think of the OP's proposal as revenge.

I am afraid. Afraid this adventure will end in sartorial tragedy.

I would really like a single button, peak lapel dinner jacket, but cut with very open quarters, and perhaps impossible to button (as tails are). It would either be a disaster, or a true bastard of a dinner jacket and a tailcoat and perceptibly more formal than a regular 'tux'.
