To try to justify this as more than a "random fashion thought..."
Many people here are quick to recommend a white t-shirt (not an undershirt) as a men's basic.

That's rarely challenged, although somebody recently wrote...
"Some guys expect to throw on a pair of Levi's and white tee and replicate that effortless cool that guys like Brando, Dean and company projected. It isn't that simple."

No, it isn't. The wearer at least needs to be in good shape and not very pale-skinned.

Beyond that, white shows stains easily. And, aside from magazine covers and things like that, in what circumstances is a white tee shirt the best choice? Probably none.

Agree? If you disagree, then please counter the argument.

easy indicator that you'll never look good in just a white tee: you write that many words about them on an internet forum

Unnecessary thread -- but I will say I wish I could find thicker, high-quality white ts that don't look like undershirts. As far as the pale thing goes, white is better than off-white or beige, which has insufficient contrast.

Beige is worse, agreed.

Velva Sheen, Fil Melange, Levi's Vintage Clothing, Real McCoy's to name a few.

Will you pay $50-100 for these brands? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely. I think you need pretty big guns in your biceps to look good in most of the LVC stuff, but all those other brands are great on any body type. I personally think Fil Melange is the best stuff out there. OC and Barney's both have a truckload...Great little details on some of their stuff, too.

To some this is just expensive loungewear...but heading into spring I love great, quality, t-shirts - when you pay the premium they will last forever and the fit is spot on.

Velva Sheen is probably the most economical of the above mentioned.

You are over-thinking this.

The people who say "Just get a white t-shirt" are under-thinking it - that was the point.

Your website uses a picture of this dude in a fugly leather jacket as an example of someone doing it right. I otherwise cannot understand why you have it on there. You also have a ton of stock images, amongst which is a middle-aged man in a sweet jean jacket. I'm not sure you should think too much about anything style-wise.

The point is, if you have a nice pair of shoes, some nice jeans or otherwise nice chino's, and a nice white tee...you're doing it right. Take a pair of CP's, or Mocs from Yuk, Quoddy, or the like...some raw denim, and a white tee...nothing wrong there. Obviously if you wear a cheap white tee with dad jeans and some **** running shoes it's not going to turn out well. You follow?

That's why you buy cheap white shirts in case you do get stains, you can just throw them away.

I prefer an off white or eggshell to a stark white.

I really enjoy the white t and v neck white t.

Perfect for Atl summers as well. It doesn't get much cooler 'temp' wise. I also can throw on a nice pair of jeans, nice shoes and still look better than 98% of the people I see.

I don't think it gets any more 'basic' than a white t. I am not sure why you think otherwise.

White does show stains easily. I can agree with that. Proper care and not eating like a 5 year old helps a great deal.

Anybody looks better thats in shape no matter what clothing he wears.

Hard to believe your an image consultant with that dork in leather pic.

Look more professional.

Get more dates.

Look age-appropriate.

Can you ask him how many dates he is getting?
