Which Watch ... Yet Again

Ok, so I'm thinking about buying another watch. I'm set on bracelets so I'd like to get something with a leather strap. My conflict is this: what color?

There are two designs I'm looking at, and each have two color options. Now, before you respond, please note that I am well aware of the automatic v. quartz debate. If I had the money for an automatic - especially one along the design lines that I like (read REVERSO!) then I would buy one in a heartbeat. But I don't have a lot to spend, so this is what I've found so far. I have looked at Fossil and such as well, and am considering those too, but I've actually had my eyes on these Timex models for awhile (TIMEX!?! Yup!).

Here's the first set:

This is the brown version. And here is the black:

And here is the second set:

In both sets, I prefer the brown combos, but I'm concerned with coordinating it with the rest of what I wear. I'd like to wear the watch when I dress for nicer situations. Usually, I wear black shoes and belt in those instances - however, there are occasions when I wear nice brown shoes and belt dressed up. Also, I dress casual most often and frequently switch between black and brown.

So... thoughts?

There is another forum that may have some ideas. It's called the Poorman's Watch Forum..might be worth a shot.

I don't think you always have to be coordinated with watch strap and shoes. Especially a darker brown should work well with lots of options.

You don't want to be talked out of buying a quartz watch so I won't.

Out of your examples, I prefer the last one. Don't be concerned about the brown strap. Buy an extra strap (black) and a cheap strap-changing tool (check Timezone.com's sales corner for sellers of both) - you'll be able to switch back and forth in a couple minutes.

I see so many people making watch purchase decisions based on the strap. It's a mistake - the case is important; straps can be changed easily and at little cost

Thanks. I was kinda thinking about that. I do like the cream dial more than plain white. Initially I was concerned that a black strap wouldn't go as well with it, but after looking closer, it should match ok considering the numerals are black.

As for the automatic part - it's not for lack of desire, just for funds. The cheapest automatic is going to run me around $100. Not a bad price, but I gotta think responsibly at the moment. For half that price, heck more than half, I can get a pretty decent watch (haven't had problems with Timex yet - just not a high end name) that keeps great time and looks great. Perhaps in the future I'll be able to indulge my mechanical fascinations and buy auto.

Who knows? I haven't decided yet.

You can get yourself automatics for ~$50. If you have a fossil outlet nearby check it regularly and you might find a nice Zodiac that retails for ~$450 at the sub-$100 range.

A friend's wife bought him a Fossil that looked like it was stainless, but it was only plated over base metal. Within the year, the sweat from his wrist had eaten through the plating and into the base metal. It grew sharp little edges and became as good as worthless.

If you're buying an inexpensive watch, make sure you don't end up buying one that's cheap.

Instead of spending $100 on an inexpensive watch, why not save and save and buy a decent quality one?

It sounds like you already have watches with stainless straps/bracelets, so this purchase is only to further diversify your collection.

Like all articles of clothing/accessories, buy quality, not quantity.

Yes, like a Patek or Piaget.
