I'm pretty sure I'm going with the first, but wanted to run this by the forum. I'm attending a New Year's Eve party which is "creative black tie optional" but decided to go with a charcoal SB suit w/ black shoes. Looking for input on which tie to go with, the spotted , or checked. If neither, I'm considering a solid silver.

My friend, only in rare instances, should you ever wear a solid tie. I would go with the spotted tie you showed. It is nicely understated and provides enough contrast with your shirt and suit to catch a nice compliment or two.

I voted for the second tie, only because I would only wear the first one with a black shirt.

I would go with the second one as it looks more festive in an almost mardi gras kind of way.
Or maybe not mardi gras, but that second pattern looks familiar and I am sure alcohol was involved so the precedent exists.
