Thank you in advance for your time and advice on my question.

I'm going to be having an interview in the next 2 weeks for graduate school and need a new suit for the occasion.

I've decided to go with the following suit but can't figure out which jacket size best fits me.

I'm 5'6" and about 145 lbs. and like a more fitted look to better compliment my dimensions.

I know that the off the rack suit doesn't live up to the standards of most in this forum (standards I hope to some day approach myself with time, experience, and $) but am trying to do the best I can :)

I've always worn a 38S with 30/30 pants, and the pants this time around seem to work ok at 30/30, though some tailoring of the hem will definitely need to be done.

It's the jacket that really has me flumoxed. I know tailoring will definitely need to be done on it, but not sure which size to start with and that best fits me.

    It's a $250 range suit, 98% wool/2% spandex.

I was really angling for a JCrew Ludlow but is just out of my price range at the moment.

    Thanks all again!

    Here's the first jacket, a 36S:

    And here is the 38S:

Look at the pulling across the back though... It looks like it is about to burst! 2nd and tailor.

Yup^ not sure how anyone in their right mind can recommend the first one after seeing the back picture - even the 2nd one has noticeable pulling.

It appears to me that the pulling in the back is not caused by an overall tightness in the shoulders. But rather by protruding shoulder blades. If you look again at the back of number 2 you will see all kinds of extra fabric on both sides of the back. Even as high up as the armpits and into the area near the shoulders. Yet even though there is extra fabric in general width there is still the pulling between the shoulder blades. To me this indicates protruding shoulder blades - either caused by the posters arm position or an actual slight deviation from normal structure.

I believe this can be successfully adjusted for either jacket and jacket number 1 seems to fit better overall.

Perhaps I'm mistaken though - would anyone else have more experience with this particular situation?

They both look a bit short to me in the jacket lenght but the first lays on you far better then the second dose.
