Which suit colour is more versatile?

So I bought a suit recently - it was the navy version of this one:

However, when I was looking online, I only saw Navy Blue and Black as the colours available as it was from a different store.

Although I've read Navy blue is very versatile, I feel that this particular Navy Blue is a bit too dark and their "midnight blue" is a better option.

I already own a black suit but it doesn't really fit me as well as this one so the Navy Blue one will replace this one anyway and provide more versatility. But would it be better to get the midnight blue one instead?

In standard meaning, "midnight blue" should be DARKER than "navy blue" but of course any retailer or producer can do as they wish. In terms of versatility and looks, better a slightyl too dark blue than a slightly too light one. IMO.

Thanks for your input.

But is the midnight blue version too light? When I search a navy blue suit on google it seems to resemble that colour more than the "navy blue" in the link above.

I guess my main concern is that it seems to me that the navy blue in the link above is too close to black and will seem like I'm going to a funeral every time i wear it.

I tend to like the midnight blue version more, but I think versatility is fairly important.

I'm not sure what you mean by "versatility." Where do you want to be able to wear it? I think the "navy" suit is more conservative a color than the "midnight blue" and therefore has a range of appropriate uses that overlaps considerably but not completely with the less conservative "midnight blue."

The "navy" on their website is more versatile than the "midnight blue".

By more versatile i'm just referring to it being appropriate to wear at more types of events.

It seems like everyone agrees that the navy one is better in that regard. I was just under the impression it was bordering being too close to black and making it seem as if I'm going to a funeral every time I wear it.

I would agree with your assessment of the colors. The "midnight blue" looks more navy than their "navy". Having said that it may be lighting but, there is entirely too much sheen coming from that "midnight blue".

Agree with @JJ Katz, I would rather the dark one over the light one. Also, I can not recall a time when midnight blue was lighter than navy. Did the company mix and match those colors perhaps?

I understand your trepidation regarding the rather dark navy being mistaken for black. Any way for you to verify that the Navy is actually "Navy" before the final purchase?

Oh I already bought it but there is a 21-day return policy. Haven't worn it or taken the tags off yet as I'm still wanting to make sure.

If you put it near something black you can tell it's Navy. It's a bit harder to tell by itself though.

Perhaps part of the reason of me wanting the lighter one instead is due to the fact that I've already got a black one, but this Navy one replaces it pretty well and it fits better.

Maybe I'll just stick with this and get the lighter one too if I feel keen down the track. But I don't really wear them that often
