Which socks with LL Bean Gumshoes?

I recently found this picture of the music group Vampire Weekend:

Notice the 2nd guy going clockwise from the top -- he's wearing jeans, argyle socks, and LL Bean Gumshoes (at least they look more like that than the moccasin version of said shoe).

Of course, LL Bean Gumshoes were really meant to be worn with really thick socks, just like LL Bean boots. But I guess I figured guys would mostly wear wool or regular white socks with Gumshoes. To those of you who wear Gumshoes (the lace-up version, of course, not the moccasin), do you guys ever wear colored dress/casual socks with them?

^^ nope, mine fit roomy, so a ragg wool sock is what I wear the with, which makes more sense weather wise aswell.

I think on the ll bean website it says to size down if you plan to wear regular socks

^^ i´ve gone down 1 whole size, and they still are roomy. The seams and general feel on the gum buttom isnt that nice either with thinner socks.

I sized down by a half size with my LLBean gumshoes and wear medium weight Gold Toe socks with mine...good fit and the construction seams of the shoes are satisfactorily tamed!

they look great, similar to what i've been looking for in a winter shoe. and not too pricey either, i might have to buy.

anyone have any pictures of it being worn?

Usually pull them out for foul weather, so I sort of end up going thick by default to keep my feet warm.
