I'm thinking about buying some Loake shoes through PLAL, something like this:

(from the Loake catalogue).

I went to a local shop that stocked a couple of Loake shoes, and found my size (size 10 - usually I'm 10.5 or 11).

When I tried them on they seemed pretty chunky around the toe area. The best way I can describe it is that they were not as flat and pointed at the front as I would like.

Is this typical of Loake shoes, or is there a style which is not so chunky?

The 026 last isn't bad, and there's been a few pics recently of 1880 loakes on the Mayfair last.

Don't go for that one. Cemented sole. Polished binder.

I like Loake 1880 series, solid shoe GY welted and great value from pediwear. I have 3 pairs; Ritz on Mayfair, Kempton chukka on the 26 and the Burford on the 26. Other than that I would not bother with the cheaper Loake lines.

He's recently spouted the same rubbish about Barker - I think we've got a new Troll.
