Which Direction For A Road Trip??

I am right smack dab in the middle of the country, so which direction to go for a road trip? I will be going with one or two roommates and probably don't want to be gone for more than a week or so. I don't know if there is anything that we are really looking to see. I am leaning to going west, Montana and New Mexico interest me, but am open to ideas. I very recently got interested in classic 35mm cameras (see 35mm post in this forum) and want to put them to good use on the trip.

To San Francisco. I have an RRL denim shirt to give you.

Probably not. Sorry, I missed that restriction. Can you lift or bend it? Two would be good. Ten days is enough.

Seven days would be the max I think. I can probably get someone to ship off garments while I am gone, but 10 days is pushing it.

I'd say west...I guess I'm just biased :p I do think there's more to see/diversity on the west though.

Southwest. Your New Mexico idea sounds like a good one. Very cool neighborhood, and some amazing scenery.

If you are completely smack in the middle of the country you are probably in Missouri.

Take a couple of hours to drive to Fulton MO and visit the Churchill Museum.

Also, Crane's country store is near there, they are an SF affiliate. Go there and have one (or many) $1 sandwiches. Its a very photogenic location.

Go west.

When I was a kid, my father and I would take road trips around the West quite often. On year we took a trip to Cimarron, NM to spend a week at the Philmont scout ranch. To this day I don't think I've been on a prettier road trip even if it was in the middle of the summer.

A few suggestions:
-Monument Valley as previously suggested.
-Albuquerque is a decent city, as is Santa Fe.
-Zion/Grand Canyon are relatively close to one another.
-Mesa Verde, CO is definitely worth taking a tour of.
-Chaco National Park in Navajo Nation

I could go on. If you settle on heading West I'd be happy to give you more ideas.

I would also add Red Rock Canyon just outside of Las Vegas. If you make it to California, I would suggest driving up Highway 1. You'll see some amazing places and scenery.

I would say SSW, just to be different.

What do you like?
Santa Fe has artsy shops, good food, and reportedly great opera (which I loathe). Pecos Wilderness just to the north is wonderful. It would be my choice for relaxation.

Edit: Just re-read your OP. Grand Canyon and Sedona, AZ would give spectacular photo ops.

I'd go toward the Oregon, Washington area. Then, if you have time, maybe up to the British Columbia area too.

Depends on what you like, I've never been closer to heaven than driving five hours through rural Pennsylvania on the way to visit the college I'm attending next year (and I'm visiting again in two weeks!). The west coast doesn't really do it for me. Whatever you do, don't go south, I lived in Texas for nine years
