Which boot do you feel is more versatile for my needs?

Hi,

I am looking for a boot that would be most versatile with what I wear during the fall through spring months. I wear mostly kakis, and I incorporate dark light wool odd trousers during the winter. I also wear jeans during the weekends along with the pants mentioned, and I hardly if ever wear suits. I plan on wearing mostly button downs and sweaters with them. These are the boots that I am considering. What is your opinion of them?

The Brooks Brothers is best. I do not like the AE. It is one of the poor design concotions
that they seem to specialize in. The Sperry is OK , but the BB make the same basic design
little more elegan tbecause it does not have a two tone sole. If you like Chukkas, I would
go for a leather sole and less chunky lines, however the BB Redwing is ok for informal
wear.

What would you would recommend in dark brown that are priced similarly or less? I don't mind a chelsea boot either.

I love a Chelsea boot, and would heartily recommend the first one.

Chelsea boots work for me because they are sleek like a wholecut but they have the utility of a boot. In my daily life I often pin and alter trousers for customers, so I spend a lot of time on my knees [yes/no/some ****] and a boot just looks tidier like that. Not to mention that I can put it with a slim dark denim and still get into any restaurant, field or S&M club I might fancy. For me it is a utility thing; never too smart and never too formal.

I would go for a sleeker, more streamlined Chukka for maximum versatility.
Will you give me an example of one in dark brown around the same price range that you would recommend so I can have a better idea of what you are talking about.

$350 price tag huh?

Well, Alden CXL starts at about $400. Allen Edmonds made the Malvern until a few years ago.

I was looking for a good Chukka and honestly just bought a Clark's Horween leather. $120 for a beater shoe, can't beat it.

This example by Carmina is what I mean by sleeker:

A bit more than the AE offering, but worth it, IMO.
Really like those, but just a little expensive for me at the moment.

I saw the Clark's, but I think I want a dressier sole. The Carmina's in suede led me to look at suede as on option. I found these Bennett's in blue suede, and I think they will suit my needs. I really need them to go well with my wool pants (dark blue, dark blue pin stripe, charcoal gray, light brown/grey) which I think they will, and yet I can wear them with my more causal attire. I also like these because the sole seems to be recraftable, and they seem fairly well made for the money and affordable. I also do not own any shoes in blue or suede. If I am off the mark here especially about the color, please let me know as I know nothing about this brand and have not found anything about them on here.

Really don't know whether the J Crew branded shoes are worth the cost given the other options available, but they don't seem to be junk either. In the end I don't know. They look decent enough.

The other chukkas I was looking at were options from Cheaney, Loake, & Alfred Sargent. I think you can see them all at Herring Shoes, and Cheaney's website has another pebble grained option.

out of this lot, redwings. BB is having a 30% off sale as well, so that $340 becomes $238...much more reasonable.

Probably out of your price range but Ludwig Reiter Chukkas which come in leather and/or
suede are modeled on the classical British George Boot.
If interested, you should contact L. Reiter directly rather than this online retailer.
I have some of their shoes- not chukkas, which are very high quality and much less
expensive when I bought them in Vienna several years ago:

Suede chukkas probably aren't formal enough for wool pants. A possible way to reduce the too-many-choices problem would be to only consider local options. That's the safer way for proper fit, anyway.

For the sake of clarity, I wasn't suggesting suede. I was showing the Carminas as an example of what I considered to be a "sleeker, more streamlined Chukka".
