I'm looking for some advice on wearing a navy blazer with jeans. Could I go for a dark or light navy and gold or silver buttons?

For example a dark navy with gold buttons:

or a lighter navy with silver buttons:

I would be wearing either dark navy jeans or light blue jeans, brown Chelsea boots and a brown belt.

I've never been a fan of a blazer with jeans, I prefer a more casual SC (patch pockets, fabric with texture)

According to RL, this is a sports coat and looks a lot like a blazer which is a bit confusing

The blazer and the jeans should be noticeably different in color hue so as not to look like a horrible suit. Usually this means jeans that are lighter than the blazer.

The surface of the blazer and the jeans shouldn't contrast too much, so no really rough jeans with plain worsted blazer. IMO...

But silver buttons, gold buttons, enamel buttons, plastic/horn buttons (then its a sports jacket or sports coat) and darker or lighter navy are all ok. Really dark blazers, midnight blue, are usually a mistake unless worn at night instead of black, in which case they are better than black. Again, IMO.

+1. Get some patch pocket blazer. Have a look at Rugby by RL> they have plenty of casual SC which will look great with jeans.

I was wearing a navy blazer today with jeans and a white shirt with suede chukkas for a meeting. The jacket has brown horn buttons and not metal. It also has patch pockets.

There is nothing wrong with the classic blue blazer with brass buttons and flap pockets but it has a very specific American preppy look. If that is what you want, then fine. But it is specific.

Thanks for the recommendation, I've never come across RL Rugby before. I usually go for 2 button suits so I guess a 3 button SC probably isn't right for me?

This one looks nice with patch pockets and a lighter shade of navy: Classic Navy Sport Coat

Would you pare it with jeans like these that are lighter but not too washed: Ricky Grey Anvil Side Weave

Dark navy with gold or dark brown horn buttons--which play well with the yellowish jeans stitching and brown shoes).

As also mentioned above, a heartier jacket fabric--flannel, doeskin, etc.--looks better than worsted.

Is the dark navy in the OP a RL Blue Label doeskin? I have that RL and it looks great with jeans.

I agree 100%. There are so many sport coats one could wear with denim and no need to degrade a blazer with it. :hide:

The new & Lingwood blazer is:
    .

The RL Rugby one is doeskin: Classic Navy Sport Coat

Would linen trousers work with that?

Why true religion jeans. Sorry they look terrible. Why not buy some RL jeans? cheaper and you won't look so try hard. I liked the navy Rugby SC. But again the SC would look shite with any of them jeans. Just buy a pair of jeans...anything other than ed hardy or true religion.

The dark navy blazer then pair it with dark wash jeans.
