Which airports exactly have these patdowns and new scanners?

Neither my flights out of New York LGA nor Chicago O'Hare have featured either. If not the big airports...then where?

I know Atlanta has them, and that's your biggest airport. Generally, at least in Atlanta, you only go through them if they choose you for "extra screening". I think Phoenix has them as well, but I haven't been through there recently enough to see.

Think JFK has them, though it might depend on your destination. One trip to Greece resulted in a patdown and walking through this like 8-foot long scanner, which several other people ahead of me had to also do, another trip to China was like no security. ???

It varies by terminal within the airports that do have them. Some do, some don't. It will be over a year before the new scanners are fully deployed.

Weird. I was in those exact terminals. I wonder what changed?

I'm about to test it in a few hours but when I came back from Atlanta the week before Thanksgiving you had a choice of say 14 security lines and lines 1 and 2 had it but I was shuttled to 10+ so I went through the regular metal detector.

LGA Marine doesn't have the backscatter scanner on the right of the security line any more?

O'Hare had a couple at my checkpoint. You didn't see anyone raising their arms in the middle of an open machine ?

Not everyone goes through btw -only a small % of travelers - you not going through it doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't there.

LAX had them, but I don't think Dulles did. American had some goons that would randomly check carry ons on the gangway.

Queued up behind line 16 or something at Atlanta - no x-ray or pat down. But yesterday's airport was pretty empty. Flight was empty too.

The bloke in front of me went in and out a few times, insisting on carrying his mobile through the metal detector and was shocked it had metal in it.
