San Francisco Tailors, 77 O'Farrell St. #200 has been recommended to me, but I haven't used them myself. Near the corner of Stockton, near Macy's.

I haven't used Oxford Tailors for jeans but used them for other alterations, all good experiences.

Do you mean just to get hemmed? or do you need more extensive alterations?

If it's just hemming, most people including myself go to Cable Car Tailors. It's run by a couple of russian guys who aren't totally customer service oriented, but they're cheap and reliable.

From Best of the Bay 2004:
Best Tailor
Cut to fit a block from the Powell Street cable car turnaround, Cable Car Tailors is our readers’ favorite place for a nip and a tuck. When finding that almost-perfect pair of jeans during your Union Square shopping spree, don't worry if they're a bit too long. Cable Car can hem them for $7, and perform a slew of other alterations too. And same-day service? That's faster than the cable cars themselves. 200 O'Farrell, Ste. 200, S.F. (415) 781-4636.
