Where to buy silk to make ties

I am considering making my own silk ties -- not to sell, just to wear. I am located in NYC, but the few fabric stores that I checked out in the garment district had limited tie silk available. I may have been checking out the wrong stores, but I was surprised by the limited selection.

I know that major brands mill their own silk. However, I am hoping that I can pick up a yard or so of some nice looking silks for my own purposes.

Does anyone have advice for where I can find silk for making ties in NYC or online?
