Where to buy formalwear suits in NYC?

Apologies if this thread isn't in the correct subforum, but I live in Queens, NYC and need to purchase a suit for a poster presentation at a scientific/engineering symposium later this week and I've never purchased a suit before. I'm not sure how much suits cost on average so concerning the budget, I'm not sure how much I should dish into a suit...I'd say like $500 max, but again, I don't know how much suits cost and I can acquire the funds accordingly if necessary. The Men's Wearhouse in my area have terrible reviews and there was another one that went out of business I think, because I could've sworn there was a location there but now it's gone. I'll be attending future presentations, so I guess this will be one suit I'll be keeping around for a while because I'm an undergraduate student who can't afford more than one. So I'd be willing to pay for something that's semi-futureproof, I guess?

I don't really have an issue with choosing a suit, I was just looking for recommendations on specific stores in the NYC area to purchase them because I don't want to get ripped off or get bad products.

If you find yourself in need of a speedy alterations tailor, you can use Bosco and Barraza bear 48th and Madison. They are expensive, but can do same-day alterations. Everything is done in-house

Wow, some of these suits are really expensive ($1,000+ from Barney's, Brooks Brothers, etc.) and I'm not sure if a $1,000 suit is worth it even if I'm going to use it for years to come. Maybe I'm just not a classy guy, but I honestly don't see the difference in terms of appearance between the $100 suits and the $2,000 ones.

Thanks for the suggestions. Another forum suggested a place called LS Clothing, so I'll be trying LS tomorrow, but I've read on this forum that the RTW suits are no good (one user claimed that the trousers ripped in the crotch) and another user suggested Mr. Ned as a "better" alternative since his negative experience at LS. I will also try SuitSupply.

But considering my time constraint (the latest I can pick up my suit is Saturday night), it seems I don't have many options. Are there any other 'backup' stores I can default to in the case that none of these stores work out to accomodate my timely needs?

I have had good experiences with LS, but they offer a couple of lines. I suggest you get something half-canvassed (not sure if they offer fused or not). The Coppley RTW stuff is all half-canvassed, as is the Coppley MTM.

Those are all places that make suits from scratch (called Made to Measure). It will take at least a month to get a suit from them. You need something off the rack.
