Where to buy a £500 workhorse suit in London

I've seen a couple threads about this now but couldn't find an exact answer.

I'm looking for a £400-600 workhorse suit that I can wear to work 3 days a week. I don't care about the brand but do about fabric quality and survivability. I know bespoke suits are best but like I said I need an everyday one (hence the price). I'm pretty average (5'10") so most off-the rack suits work for me after on-the-spot tailoring.

Can someone recommend something in London?

So far my best find was suitsupply. They have suits in this range and they seem to be using high quality fabric. On their website they say "we use a thin layer of horsehair-reinforced cotton" - is this good or bad?

On a separate note - can someone briefly educate me on what to look for in a suit (aside tailoring - more in terms of quality)? A couple bullets would be great.

Also has anyone tried www.asuitthatfits.com? £500 bespoke suit sounds to good to be true?

Thanks in advance!

I would avoid SuitSupply. Their fabrics tend to be super 110s/130s which won't take the sort of punishment you intend to give it. They are also quite lightweight, and for a workhorse you should be looking at 12oz or better still 13. Ideally you should wear a suit no more than once a week, but if that is impractical then at least give it 1 day rest between wears.

On that basis I would get two suits and go for something cheaper. Look at the sales (if there is one going on) at a place like Roddy Charles where you will find a slightly heavier and more durable suit. Likewise, Cordings do decent workhorse suits, but even in the sale you'll be looking at £250/£300 each.

Thanks for the reply!

I appreciate what you're saying but my plan was to get two pairs of trousers - which effectively would make it two suits (my jacket just hangs in the office all day). Still avoid? Will look into the brands you gave.
