hey everyone. my apologies if this question has been asked before, did a couple searches and wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for.

I picked up a suit today. bought it from a store at the mall that also does tailoring, and had them tailor it for me, including narrowing the jacket, slimming the thighs, and tapering the leg. I'm overall pleased with the fit. however there's definitely a problem with the pants. the pockets bulge out considerably, and there's some whiskering going near the crotch (for lack of a better term?). I'm assuming the thighs were made just a bit tight. My question is, where should my pants sit on my waist? I notice when I pull them up, the problem seems to disappear slightly. At this point, the waistband would be just below my bellybutton, maybe an inch or so. Is this where suit pants are supposed to be worn? I'll try and add a picture tonight if it would help. I'm taking them back tomorrow for the tailor to fix, but I might not have to if you guys think I was just 'wearing them wrong' aka too low in the first place. Thanks

that would depend a lot on the cut of the pants. they may be cut traditionally, which should be worn higher, or they could be cut modern, which is a lower rise. maybe if you provided a rise measurement and your height it would help.

it seems like, though, that the pants should sit higher up simply because pockets are supposed to lay flat when you're standing w/the pants at the correct height.

sorry but your belly button has nothing to do with your waist. some people have a high button or a low button. to locate your true waist its just above your hip bones where the torso should indent.
if you want the trouser waist to ride on your true waist thats where it should be. if not place it where you wish.
remember if the crotch hangs too low the rise is too long for you .
either pull the pants up or look for a pair that has a shorter rise.
    same for the reverse.

That is if its not concealed by bulging belly and lover's handle...
