Where Do You Find Skinny Ties?

I've had the hardest time finding reasonably priced skinny ties. I don't shop often and I mainly go to malls. I'm a student and cannot spend $150+ on a skinny tie from Dolce and Gabbana or whatever.

Any suggestions on where I can actually find new skinny ties that are under $50-60? I'm open to any look. Thanks.

Penguin makes pretty nice slim ties for $30 or so. They aren't ultra skinny, but they are definitely slimmer than a normal tie. Think of Connery's ties in the first few Bond movies.

jcrew's ties, while not incredibly skinny, are about 3.25"...also try french connection if you want really skinny ties...they're usually around that price

You can find Calvin Klein and DKNY ties at any Lord & Taylor, they average about 3.25" which to me is the perfect width for a tie. If you're looking for something slimmer than that, try CK Slim ties, which are 3". CK Slim ties are sold at Macy's usually.

If you weren't steadfast on the new you can find some very nice older ties, which can be very skinny. Check around thrift stores and the like, you might be surprised.

Personally, I have over 150 ties all of less than 3" blade width that I inherited from my grandfather and father, from makers like brooks brothers, pendleton, and several custom stores that have long since disappeared.

I would say more like 2 or 2.5 is a "skinny tie"

Try more fashion oriented brands like Ben Sherman, FCUK or just browse the fashion section of your local department store.. Thrifting knit and skinny ties can be great too!

Ralph Lauren Polo (I've recently seen nice ones at TJ MAXX for $30)

You can have any wide ties narrowed at Tiecrafters www.tiecrafters.com (about $15 plus shipping)

If you are at all open to used ties, thrift stores will have tons of them from the 80's, but I noticed your post asked for new ties.

Altering a tie is a really simple affair, takes about an hour. Take one apart, you'll see what I mean. You just need scissors, a ruler, a pencil, an iron and a needle. I take my 3.75" ties down to 3" and it doesn't even require cutting the silk/wool, simply re-ironing the creases after cutting the form (not sure what the correct name for that inner layer of the tie is) to the new size.

Barney's Co-op and Jack Spade are both chock-full. I think Hickey has some, but they'll have pot leaves or 40's in a paper bag on them, so they might not meet your requirements.

HAs anyone noticed Bill Maher has been going crazy w/ the skinny ties lately?
