I have black shoes, I have light brown, I have dark brown, but I don't have burgundy. I'm thinking of picking up a pair of burgundy loafers, a dressy style. First off, where do these types of shoes fit in one's wardrobe? And any particular recommendations? I usually go for shoes in the $200 - $650 range - as long as it looks well constructed, is fashionable, and isn't made in china I'm usually a happy clam.

I think that burgundy is rapidly becoming my favorite shoe color. And of course my love for the #8 shell LHS is well known.

The full strap is also very nice.

Burgundy is a versatile colour that can easily go between business or casual dress. Loafers are generally viewed as casual, but in my opinion can be worn just about anywhere or anytime lace ups can.

Avoid ostentatious horsebit loafers. LHS is your best bet. If you can afford the shell premium you won't regret it.

I wear my burgundy loafers with a lot of different pants in my wardrobe...navy or khaki chinos, jeans, grey slacks...

I've been jonesing for a pair of #8 LHS for a long time and will probably pick up a pair soon, but I've also recently come to love my #8 tassels. IMO the tassel is the most formal loafer style because of the high vamp that covers most of the foot. So I rank it about equal with monks and right under bluchers in the formality scale.

Not loafers, but I get a LOT of mileage out of my AE Burgundy Park Avenues - I don't think I'd want them in a more trad black/brown, but in Burgundy they really look elegant.

Burgundy is such an underrated color! You shouldn't be over-thinking it Bro. It's' completely masculine. I've found that my burgundy Bass Weejuns literally are pleasing to almost every outfit I can think of. From business attire to extremely casual settings. You can't go wrong...

I'm just going to let that one go...

I wear my #8 LHS with everything from shorts to flannels. I prefer a lace up or tassels while wearing a suit.
