Where can I shop for a new watch?

Where can I find a new watch online or even suggested stores? I'm looking to get a new silver watch that will stand out but at the same time be able to wear with a suit. I'm looking to spend around 1 to 2 grand and keep in mind I'm young twenties. I was looking at some Omega watches at a local jeweler but they had a very poor selection. Any suggestions would be very helpful!

You question implies that you have little experience with watches -- nothing wrong with that, we all need to start someplace.

I suggest going to all of your local ADs and try on as many makes and models as possible. If this will be a dress watch, wear a jacket and dress shirt to see how it will fit under a cuff. If their are few dealers in your area wait until you take a trip to a larger market. They can ship the watch to you and you may be able to save the sales tax.

Most ADs will give a 20% - 30% discount depending on the make an model. I do not recommend novices buy their first watch on the Internet nor should you buy a watch sight-unseen.

Just my suggestions,
Twotone

Try Mont Blanc. They have some decent watches. All under $4,000

What is an AD? I live in Buffalo New york, so obviously not the fashion capital of the world. It's not my first watch per say I have a watch from HUGO BOSS and one from GUESS which work great, both are under $300, I'm obviously at this point trying to find something on a different level than that.

Amazon.com has some reputable watch sellers if you want to go online.

if you are in the 1k-2k range, look for automatic watches (not quartz), 'cause they have a mechanical movement which gives'em some kind of "artisanal" quality

The brands I could recommend in the 2k range are:

Omega
Raymond Weill
Longines
Movado
Baume & Mercier
Tag Heuer
Montblanc (some models on sale)

+1 Mont Blanc watches are not a very good value. For retail I would recommend going to a longines, hamilton, tudor, mido, tissot, rado or baume & mercier store. Check their websites to find an authorized dealer near you.

Good call in looking at Omegas. Omega is always a pretty good starting point for someone new watches. Can't go wrong with a Speedmaster. I suggest you look up Omega's website and find something you particularly like and have the AD get one for you to try out.

If you want Omega, contact Continental Jewelers in Washington, DC. They should give you 30% off most of the non-LE watches.

You may need to indicate that you were referred from Timezone.com.
