OK, I'm on a mission to find a cool "covert" [chesterfield??] style coat (to wear with a pair of black crockett & jones chelsea boots) in a color like this one, but of a good british make (if possible). planning to buy it soon, hold onto it for next fall/ winter for places like NYC and Chicago.

Any ideas?

cordings and new and lingwood are the most popular retailers of this kind of coat. pakeman also has it. it is a covert coat.

Brooks will usually have one during the winter months aswell as Ben Silver if you're willing to pay their premium

Asprey had a number of nice ones during their recent sample sale. There were some unsold at the end of the sale. I would have assumed they would have simply stored the unsold merchandise for next year's sale, but now... Maybe they'll turn up somewhere. Very nice coats, but absurdly sized: a 36 was like a 40.

I have one from Oliver Brown. Love it, and do indeed wear it with black shoes. Observation: they are not that heavy, and I don't find them suitable when the temperature dips below 40F.

Certainly agree with GFM. I have a nice Polo covert-cloth coat in olive/brown with a mid-brown velvet collar (an Ebay steal at $250). I use it as a transitional coat - it is nice in spring-fall, through much of early fall and again in the current winter/spring transition.

Most of the coats I have seen of this type are like mine - a mid-weight cloth, and not too warm.

If you are going to Chicago, better plan on this for early fall. NYC may be a bit more forgiving, but can get pretty cold as well.
