Charles ain't cheap. I've paid $240 for a full suit alteration. He spends about 15 minutes pinning and marking the jacket on the sides and a the rear. He also reworked the shoulder and the collar, and of course did the sleeves. Then there was the trouser waist, taking in the seat, and hemming the cuff. He definitely saw a lot of problems that I wasn't aware of, but the improvements he made were immense and obvious. I spent this much for him to alter a NWT Corneliani suit I bought from ebay and a Borrelli suit I got from World's Finest that I had initially tailored (poorly and cheaply) somewhere else, and these are easily my two best fitting suits. I wouldn't take a cheaper suit to him unless I really loved it and wanted perfection - I have a Southwick suit that I got for $75 on ebay and I had that one tailored on the cheap. It's fine but not perfect.

How much should I expect to pay for him to do a full alteration? What price range should I expect?

I went to Paul on Wilshire Tailors and I was quoted 175 USD for a full alteration. If I like his work, I'll bring another jacket to fix the shoulders.

I've started using Paul as well. He's cheaper than Charles and easier to communicate with. So far I like his work very much. He took an ebay tweed suit that didn't come close to fitting me and he made it fit very well.

do you have an address or website?

if anyone else has any recommendations please feel free to share.

+1 on Paul, and also on Charles as recommended by Baron
[sorry, forgot I'd already commented - recommendations still stand, though]

I've never heard this term before. An alterations tailor charges for each particular alteration, the number of which can vary depending on the fit of the suit. To determine how pricey a tailor is, one would need to see their fee schedule and compare it to the other tailors in the market.

I've used him pretty recently - like 6 months ago at most. Maybe "Charles" retired, but the old dude that runs the place (I think he's German, not named Charles) is the only guy I've dealt with. He knows his business.

That is Charles. He is Austrian. His name is Karl Fiedler-which he translates to "Charles" in English.

Did anyone have the number for this tailor? I'm new to Los Angeles and trying to find a tailor that I can strike up a relationship with and rely on during my stay here...Thanks!

    Completely understand that...

Dropped off a jacket with Charles for alteration today. Seems like a very nice guy and hopefully will be my go to for the long haul...we'll see when the jacket comes back although the turnaround time is definitely on the slow side...

Any experience on turnaround time with Paul? I was invited to a wedding and just picked up a suit I'd like to wear to it. 3-4 weeks might be pushing it.
