Well I took my Ike Behar shirts (5 of them) that I've acquired at Off Saks and got them taken in so that aren't so baggy around the waist. I look wayyy better now and they feel much more snug against my body. However this cost me $15 a pop. I just took in 3 more shirts and I'll do another shirt I just recently bought later this week. As you can see, this can add up everytime I buy a new shirt. Who are good makers of slim fit shirts? Obviously my price range is $60-100 (because I usually buy on sale/outlets).

yeah, this comes up two or three times a week. the answers are always variations of the below:

1) keep doing the alterations. $15 is eminently reasonable.
2) buy slimmer fitting shirts. some are slimmer and some are less so. some are advertised as slim and some are just slimmer.
3) go custom/mtm/bespoke.

If your issue is cost, then I think you'd best simply anticipate a $15 alterations fee that goes with buying a shirt. If that puts you beyond your price range, maybe you need to find lower-priced brands you can live with.

I look at it as balancing cost against fit. I basically calculate prices with this in mind, and buy shirts for a lower price. Other than bespoke, there's not really a great alternative. As I think about it, I'm guessing that OTR shirts are rarely going to come slimmer for the same reason pants always come with long, unhemmed inseams: this accommodates the greatest number of buyers.

As a result of my newfound reliance on the tailor, I can afford fewer clothes, but I'm infinitely more satisfied with them.

Finally, though this is obviously far below your quality standard, try Zara. They make very 'european' cut shirts.
