Where and how to hem your denim?

Dear forum members,

Recently I purchased a pair of jeans from Kato Brand. Unfortunately, they only sell denim in size 34 inseam. I'm afraid that if I'll get it hemmed at a 'regular' tailor, they will just make it shorter, without taking the shape of the leg and the taper into account. Do any of you know a good place that can tackle this problem around the DC metropolitan area?

Check Franklin and Poe in Philadelphia. You can do it thru the mail. They will get it right.

Try calling the tailor, explain what you want done and ask if they can do it.

I assume that most tailors don't have vintage chain stitching machines as there are only a couple hundred left in the world.

OP, if you do a searh on line you will find that there are a few specialty denim hemming places and repair places. They I have used two different ones with varying pricing and results. They all seem decent and the one mess up I had they fixed. I think I used Denim Therapy last time and sent them 4 pairs of jeans but I previously used Denimrepair.com which has better pricing.

You're vastly overestimating the complexity of a chain stitch or your tailor is a noob. Op, just call the tailor and ask about a chain stitch. Also, it's good if you let them know the weight of the denim as that will require a stronger machine with heavier weights.
