I have on at least one occasion heard reference to being able to buy Polo Ralph Lauren cashmere sweaters at especially low prices at some place / time in the retail year. Retailing for about $400, they tend to go NWT on ebay for about $100-150. Is there a good time and or place to look for these and what can I expect to pay? I think someone was mentioning picking them up for next to nothing at macys or bloomingdales on sale. Is that fantasy?

Additionally, are there any companies that make cashmere sweaters of quality similar to PRL that are an especially good deal, in terms to decent to high quality vs. low cost. Not terribly worried about where they are made, but longevity is sought - e.g., the above-mentioned polo cashmere sweaters are made in hong kong, but of italian yarn, and seem to hold up well. Cable knit preferred, as are thicker (rather than light-weight) sweaters.

Does anyone have any experience with Polo Ralph Lauren cashmere sweaters (labeled "made in China of Italian yarn").

I saw a few at Marshalls today for $100. Are they worth that?

I was about to answer the question above yours with Marshalls. Yes they're worth $100.

+1. I have 4 PRL cashmere sweaters...2 crewnecks, Vneck, and a cricket vneck. All were picked up for under $100 and they are my favroite sweaters.

One thing I did notice though...PRL cashmeres run slim.

For a comparable quality sweater, try the Bloomingdales house brand. Uninspiring designs, just solid crew and v necks, but usually on sale for <100 and seems to be as equal quality as the PRL made in china ones.

Worth that and then some. Pick me up a few XLs while you're at it...

It's indeed worth $100 I think, for PRL cashmere sweaters. I picked up my PRL cable sweaters ("made in China of Italian yarn") on eBay for $128 and $138 (during August-September last year), which I think is great value.
