the only "problem" with that is ... i end up buying too many shoes

i just ordered 2 pairs off the clearance section
hopefully i won't like them so i can return them ... but chances are i will end up keeping both

It was a temporary promotion -- 25% off clearance items. Unfortunately, it's now over.

I don't think that that promotion is as predictable as, say, the corporate discount, but it's certainly been done before, and likely will be done again.

Because these 200 off 500 sales are relatively big discounts for BB and can be stacked for stuff that's already on sale, I always feel these are the best prices to be had each year, but perhaps only come up once a year or maybe slightly more often?

Right. I hadn't actually gone back before and looked at the dates of the orders I placed on those promotions, but I think you're right. Picked up an 1818 Navy suit for $400 last month.

Hmm, the only times Larry Laffer and I remember (last few posts) this happening in the last couple of years has been April '16 and '17, and I actually took a look at orders I placed to check. Maybe someone else remembers a date when this happened that better supports your theory?

I haven't kept extensive details on the dates of big Brooks Brothers sales. I did use the BCSP17 code for $200 off of $500 on regular-priced and sale-priced goods in late March. The sale dates included were as follows (March 21 - April 2):

The middle of last June I purchased a Red Fleece shirt at 50% off. Does anybody remember what the sale was at that time? I think it may have been a straight 50% off Red Fleece (or shirts at least). I'd like to pick up another 5 or so RF shirts that are full price right now and am hoping they might have another sale like that...
