The best deal I've seen so far is the Black Fleece gray suit for 40% of ($1375 to $825). Open a credit card, get 15% off, and now it's down to $700.

I've heard a lot of bashing around the forum about Thom Browne's short and boxy cut. But I've seen the suit in person. Material and construction is really good. For $700, this could make a pretty good staple suit (for business meetings, job interviews, attending weddings, etc.)... Don't you think?

5'11". Would that be a problem? I am sensing the comment about Thom Browne's Pee-Wee-Herman look is coming...

    I'm 6'2" and wouldn't touch a BBBF suit.
It may work for you though (just make sure the jacket covers your rear).
    IMHO of course. . .

@Hard2Fit: Your name says it all. [IMG] Thanks for the tips and appreciate the heads up.

Case study for others: I was looking for a staple grey suit for attending weddings and biz meetings. I actually tried the Black Fleece suit again today, and decided against it. On a second thought, the BF suit made me look like a "school boy" and a little boxy. I ended up spending a little bit more on a Golden Fleece Fitzgerald. My fiancee had a good point when she told me that the Fitz "has more shape".

So, I'm voting the Golden Fleece as one of the discounts to get this season. Keep in mind that the GF line includes free alteration, and the fabric is hand tailored in Italy (at least from the label). Not sure if it is still made by Caruso, though.

After the 30% discount, plus 15% more if you open a new card, you are looking at $1,000 and change, after tax.

Do the GF suits come with functioning cuffs/surgeon's cuffs, or is that only a MTM option?

they can be made functional by the store tailors or a private tailor. The sleeves are unfinished so you can decide which to do functional or non.

Edit: I also believe that GF is now made my Southwick here in the USA. I am not sure of the maker of the GF suits from Italy. But any on the website are made in the USA by southwick. The used to be made my Martin Greenfield but they were recalled late last summer I believe.

I've been asked about the location of our GF suits in the past and I want to look into it but I do know our MTM GF is still at Greenfield while our 1818 is Southwick.

I can confirm the Made in Italy GF suits are made by Lardini. US ones made by Southwick.

That is somewhat disappointing. Lardini makes some nice half canvas stuff but for what they charge they could bump it up to at least caruso or something.

    well thanks for trying
but i don't ever bother to look at black fleece suits anymore
i'm 6'1" and the jacket looks silly short on me
even at 5'11", depending on your body proportions, the suit may be too short for you

Any idea who makes the 1818 "full canvas" suits? I just noticed two Regents fc's on the website. (Both made in Italy.)

My understanding is that Lardini makes all the "made in Italy" suits and sportcoats for BB.
