I'll stop in Macy's Friday to look at them. I do like their functionality.

+1. No one is going to know the difference... Not unless it has something crazy on it or a weird design.

Frankly I don't know how people survive without wearing one. I forgot mine today because I was in a rush and in the end I just said fuckit and tucked my tie into my shirt. I can't stand it when it's flapping around getting in the way of my crimefighting.

But, you'll know the difference. Have you guys bought something expensive or extravagant just because you wanted it? Maybe you feel good when you wear it? Which is not to say that you can't get a nice looking tie clip (or cufflinks, for that matter) pretty cheaply, esp. vintage - and we've seen many bargains here on the SF - but isn't there a difference between going cheap and getting a bargain?

I wore them when I was very young but haven't for a great many years. In hindsight, I don't see that they do much good. I am certainly never troubled by my unsecured tie flapping around. Perhaps if I wore coat and tie while riding a motorcycle I'd feel differently about this issue.

why are you so concerned with getting the 'cheapest' tie bar? why not get the best quality for the price (its a great concept)... how many tie bars are you going to own? I would rather have one of decent quality, weight, and look, than 4 cheap pieces of garbage from Target. Take good care of it and it'll will last you forever (assuming you dont loose it) which you shouldnt because all the ones I have tried on (all have been of the expensive nature $75+) were so secure they were almost difficult to take off.

Hackett have a very charming one ATM. It is silver, and has centimeters measured out across it, which gives the impression of measuring the tie.

Unfort. not on their website.

Just bought my first a couple of weeks ago, a Tateossian from STP, for 25 bucks. They're in and out, but it's beautiful, with a smoke colored glass inlay, and a great deal.

I completely understand what your saying. It all depends on the purchaser and what he wants. To me, tie bars aren't really important, so I will not be buying an expensive one. Something in the mid range will do just fine. But yes, there is a difference between going cheap and finding a bargain, that's just my $.02.

^ mid range for a tie bar is about $75 considering the expensive ones range from $250-$400 for Thom Browne
