when do brown shoes match and not match?

I've always worn brown shoes with brown clothes only. Looking through the what are you wearing today thread; I often see people wearing brown shoes with black, but for some reason I feel like it clashes. Or how about blues-- say blue shirt + denim + brown shoes, does that work? Or is it all dependent on the shade?

maybe not neon, but brown goes with pink really well. Somehow it seems to absorb pink's "pinkness" and makes it less eye-popping than when worn against black.

brown doesnt go with bright red and royal blue imo. Otherwise, most combination would probably work..

I generally just go by the colors of the top(s) I'm wearing. If it has black, I'll wear it with black shoes. If it has brown, I'll wear brown shoes. If its anything else I'll wear whatever the hell shoes I want Up until recently, I'd pretty much wear brown shoes with everything, and it looked fine. I only did that because I didn't have a black shoe I liked though.

If you feel like it clashes then you shouldn't attempt it or you'll feel self-conscious while wearing it.

Personally, though, I agree with you. I don't like brown shoes with black pants or outfits that have lots of black unless it's all functional workwear or military garb.

The only times I will mix brown and black include wearing brown watch straps on black dialed watches, and occasionally, I will wear a black shirt with a brown jacket, belt and shoes.
