What's your opinion on tailored, pressed (with creases) shorts

Just joined the site today and already I can see I'm going to like being here. Got a bit of a burning sartorial question here for my first post. I was wondering what your opinion on more formal shorts? I recently bought this pair from ASOS.

I really like the way they look along with the sharp creases. I think they look nice with a collared shirt and would be good to wear out on warmed days or on holiday/vacation. I feel this style of shorts has been around for a while and the catwalks seem to have been pushing them for ages, but truth be told I've never seen anyone else in my city wearing them. Part of me in concerned, living in the UK, that these are very much like grey school shorts worn by small boys as part of their school uniforms. The other part really likes them and I feel they bridge the smart casual gap for warmer days.

I am just over thinking it? Would you wear these or do you have any similar pairs?

OK, so don't wear them with a beanie, school tie and knee socks...

Think suede loafers, no socks and a linen or voile shirt with rolled-up sleeves (worn tucked in).
