I've been forced to listen to like 40 anthems today...

Looks like I'm becoming an expert

My favourite ones are:
1. Russian
2. French
3. Polish
4. Italian
5. Monegasque

Just wondering what your favourite anthems are!!!

in the grand tradition of most proud Australians, I don't even know the words to our national anthem. I could probably wing it through the first verse if pressed...beyond that, no hope. Something about girt.

The Star Spangled Banner is fine, of course, when it's lively, but not when sung by those Mariah Carreys, Whitney Houstons and Christina Aguileras and their likes... and I'm having a hard time finding a good dynamic version of it. It's natural we love our OWN national anthems, but I think we should exclude them from the vote.

1. Old GDR anthem (by Hans Eisler -- a great composer and the most moving anthem). 2. France 3. USA All splendid. If GB used Parry/Blake's Jerusalem, it would be the best. An amazing piece of music. I've conducted many National Anthems. The one I dislike conducting is Italy.

Unless arranged by Howard Cable or David Foster. They both make the boring melody sound quite stirring and beautiful.
