i just got a white stretch fit straight collar dress shirt from banana republic on sale for only $30 or so. decent deal. slim fit, fits me perfectly surprisingly, i won't even bring it to my tailor.

thing is...the last button on the shirt buttons horizontally rather than vertically and the stiching for the button hole is blue rather than white like the rest of the shirt. what gives? it'll probably be tucked just enough that it won't show but why is it like that at all?

Some shirts are made like that...The Hill fingerer esp. Tuck it in and dont stress, it has no subliminal meaning.

Uh-oh. My tailor started putting them on my bespoke shirts without even asking... I'm going to kick his ass.

Some shirt makers provide a horizontal button hole for the bottom button on the front placket. This ensures that the two sides of the front are kept lined up, which is especially important if a pattern is involved.

But isn't that just one of those insidious tactics commonly employed by those **** shirtmakers?

Yes, if you button it, it means you swing both ways.

It's the only way to be sure.
