1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I don't quite understand where this craze for Chuck Norris came from? Was it TV? A movie? A rerun of Walker Texas Ranger? He's everywhere these days. Any insights?

Although, I did hear an awesome Norris fact that SF should adopt as its motto:

Along with his black belt, Chuck Norris often chooses to wear brown shoes. No one has DARED call him on it. Ever.

It's really old. It might have been funny a few months ago. I remember Conan parodied Norris a couple years ago in some Late Night segments.

That's right - Conan had the "Walker: Texas Ranger Lever". Whenever he pulled the lever, he got a clip from the show.

It's just one of those memes that travels around the Internet until everyone on Earth is quoting from it - usually starting through a Photoshop competition, Flash animation or forum thread from Something Awful, Slashdot, Newgrounds, Fark or one of those sites, and then it spreads.

The "Chuck Norris facts" actually started off as "Vin Diesel facts". Others you might have seen would be Lee Hotti, All Your Base, David Hasselhoff, the Star Wars Kid, that Badger song, and so on.

    Also, Snakes on a Plane.

I'm glad somebody finally asked about this. I noticed that the Chuck references would crop up in some threads, usually posted by a certain member, and I never understood it. Not being a Chick Norris fan at all, I find it a bit tiresome, but have always just ignored it.

Only Chuck Norris can find something tiresome and ignore it at the same time.

It just goes on and on and on. Like pain from Chuck Norris' spinning double backfist to the mind.

"Throughout my adult life, I have always tried to acknowledge the debt I owe to my military experience, for allowing me to serve my country and for instilling within me strong moral fiber and self-discipline. These qualities have served me well in a film and television career where I have played many heroic characters. Today, more than ever, the inspiration for the parts I play is found in you - our nation's men and women in uniform - and the selfless contributions you make on a daily basis to keep our country safe and free. I salute you. I thank you. And I wish you Godspeed and a safe return home."

Original source for Chuck Norris Facts (also Vin Diesel facts).

There was a fairly amusing article online somewhere recently interviewing the guy who created those generators, and his experiences with actually meeting Chuck Norris (who apparently is fine with the whole thing and finds it amusing.)

    Also, Snakes on a Plane.
And Goatse and HaHa Man and those stupid Joel Veitch animations and... [IMG]

You want it to be dead. You don't want to keep reading. But Chuck Norris makes you.

Chuck Norris was the fourth Wiseman. He brought baby Jesus the gift of "beard". Jesus wore it proudly to his dying day. The other Wise men, jealous of Jesus' obvious gift favoritism, used their combined influence to have Chuck omitted from the Bible. Shortly after all three died of roundhouse kick related deaths.

Chuck Norris has a posse. It used to be Andre the Giant's posse. You don't want to end up like Andre the Giant, do you?

Chuck Norris does not kill things. He allows things to live.

Except when he kills them, then he wants them dead.
