Somebody please tell me what the big deal with incotex is. I have bought 2 pairs and they never fit! They always seem to run two sizes smaller. Why can't this company just make a true fit?

2 sizes smaller isn't my experience; I measured some of mine, and they're 1" more than the tagged size, which seems about right if you account for a t-shirt and shirt tucked in and a bit of shrinkage.

They do have true sizes.

If you are paying a fraction of retail price, like the crazy massive sales going on in the B&S section, then you are assuming some risk with sizes. If you can't stand this, go to a store (Neiman Marcus), try them on and get the right pair, but pay retail.

IME it's all about where they were made.

Agreed. There's no hidden truth here; pants (even from the same brand) come in different styles and cuts, and even from different factories in various countries. If I buy something online, I buy it with the thought that the measurements posted are generally correct, but that even so there is a very decent chance that I may have to flip it on the forum if the fit doesn't work. If that becomes a problem for me, then I refrain and patronize a brick-and-mortar store instead.

same here. but maybe i'm missing something here - all the Incotex FS threads that i've opened have measurements that the seller has taken, presumably with their own measuring tape. since i have to believe that these sellers are halfway competent with a tape, doesn't that take the guesswork out of online fitment?

Bingo. I bought a few pairs in the frenzy. Before buying, I compared those against measurements of pants I currently have to check that they weren't an order of magnitude apart.

Well, I bought 7 pairs and only 2 fit. I fit every single 34/50 pants I've come across, but Incotex is really really slim (damn my thighs!). I'm still deciding whether or not to flip these or just lose weight (which I am in the process of doing) and hope for the best. No way am I going to pay $10/pair to have them taken out.

I'm also deciding whether or not I should try and buy a 36/52...

I'll say that the pants made for the European market (with sizes like 48, which is the equivalent of the US 32, for example), are overall much slimmer than those for the US market.

In my experience, this is not always true. It depends on where they are made- Romania almost always is slimmer than Portugal (which is often for Zegna). This is also a function of the lower rise many of the Romanian pants have, making them seem smaller because of where they button.

Here's a side-by-side:
20080524-1.jpg

These were from the previous Inco-Daffy's bonanza back in April/May 2008. Both pair are tagged 34, but the bottom pair were Inco-made for Zegna in Portugal and the top Inco label made in Romania. You can see that the waist is pretty much the same, but the pant leg is narrower all the way down. Unfortunately I rolled a craps on that one as neither pair worked out.

Even the Inco's I found at Barney's had surprising variation between different models. I tried on a pair of the 100% cotton cords and also the 10% cash/90% cotton cords and found that the cash/cotton ones had a noticeably smaller rise.

Lastly, the pairs seen here and here are both 100% cotton cords, the first from Saks and the second from SierraTradingPost.com. They are nearly identical in the waist and seat, but as you can see differ in the tapering down the leg.

YMMV.

They do vary season to season, and label to label.

The ones they make for Zegna and Faconnable, for example, are usually roomier than Incotex' own.

But the slim fit and the variation from labeled size is why I give so many measurements for each pair I sell. More work up front I hope will lead to more satisfaction later.
