What's the flap on my tuxedo shirt for?

There's a flap, with two button holes at the bottom of the front placket, below the bib. What is this for? I had this shirt made by Mimmo Siviglia a couple of years ago, and I asked Francesca, but I didn't really undestand what this thing is for. Any ideas?

I think that would be for attaching your shirt to your trousers (with the corresponding attachment), to stop the bib from riding up during the evening and getting creased/awful looking.

I think you're right, but unfortunately, my pants don't have a button!

I would recommend that you ask an experienced tailor, as he may be able to a. give you a definitive answer and b. perform any necessary work to make use!
