What's the Deal with:THE COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO CLASSIC MENSWEAR BRANDS?

Rummaging around the internets, I happened upon THE COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO CLASSIC MENSWEAR BRANDS. It is almost 160 pages of information. While it does not offer encyclopedic details, it does cover almost every brand I have ever heard about as well as quite a few that I had no idea existed. It also contains links to company and manufacturer websites. It is authored by a Russian cat named Dmitri Vasfilov. Am I way late to this party as in everyone knows about it but me? Just curious.

I wasn't aware of it, but just looked it up. Frankly, not very impressed with it. The author seems new to the subject and the "guide" is not much more than a shopping guide cobbled together through various internet posts.

I think the best writers on this subject remain Flusser, Boyer, and Roetzel. Voxsartoria's "Coherent Combinations for Beginners" is also a very good read. Beyond them, there are a bunch of academic writers who explore various issues related to dress, but not directly about the subject of how to dress.

Either Flusser or Boyer has written shopping guides before (I can't remember which). Many of the stores on that list are now defunct, but even that read is better than this one. If you pick it up, you can read their short reviews of some of the great haberdasheries of their day.

Much like Say Hi and November was White, December was Grey, it starts out on the right channel only and then it swoops out of nowhere to set off a blinding display of Whites and Grey's. I wonder if the Russian was writing all of sartorial prose from the confines of his barcolounger also? Now what has become of Maurine?
