I have a new black wool coat that looks terrible because of the lint it picks up. What's the best type of lint brush for wool coats? Is it the roller type (with tape) , the brush type, or rough pad type? Thanks.

It depends on the texture of the fabric but on anything but a very delicate coat the tape type works well. A brush doesn't do much to pull lint off. The napped kind (usually red) do a better job of that. There's also a type with rubber "bristles" that works well on animal hair and such.
