What's on you holiday wish list? Anything inexpensive?

Okay, I admit it, I'm having a hard time creating a wish list for family and friends. I can come up with all sorts of great very expensive things I'd like, but don't feel that's appropriate.

I'd like maybe a travel case for cufflinks and one for ties. Or a combo, if such a thing exists.

Books are always welcome but even there I have a stack still waiting on me.

But after that I'm stuck. Does anyone have any ideas? Anything in particular you're hoping for?

My best friend is coming back from LA for 2 weeks. It's really the only thing I'm looking forward to. I've known him for 12 years, and him being away for the last 7 months has been really hard (Even though he was away for all of college).

Maybe some money to buy some CDs would be nice. I wouldn't mind expanding my music collection. I also wouldn't mind some sweaters/sweatshirts/jackets. I haven't bought a hoodie all of 2008. The last hoodie I got was last Christmas. Maybe I should get one. Or avoid them.

I second the idea of music and films.

Here are a few suggestions:

A gift certificate for concert tickets

Some small kitchen accessory you want--a nice corkscrew, a paring knife, something like that

Something small for the house or garden--garden tools or gloves always make me happy.

Some spices from Penzey's

Flowers delivered to your office on a random day

Bottles of wine

as far as inexpensive, i'll be hoping to get a proper shoe shine kit. mine is kinda janky right now.

my big present is gonna be having my girl fly out here from OK though. it'll have been over three months since we've seen each other when she gets here at the end of dec.

Sadly, my list is the same this year as last.

Alden cordovan belts in both black and #8.

But since my gifts mainly come from my kiddo I will likely get white socks and T-shirts again and that will be just fine too.

I want:

a decent knife (will come from my father) to carry daily in my pocket
A nice (will still be cheap) travel watch case to hold 2-4 watches
Hair products from my sister (she owns a salon and gets them over 1/2 off what I can)
Good soap from a relative that doesn't live in the middle of nowhere like myself and can get it

as far as cheap stuff that's about all I can think of

Gift certificates are always good. Since my family doesn't understand or share my love of clothes, I've had to train them just to give me a gift certificate to Brooks Brothers (or amazon) instead of trying to buy me something like a "clever" t-shirt or a polyester sweater. Then I show them what I bought with their gift certificate, so they can see what they actually gave.

My wife always tells her parents to do this for me and it works out great. It also helps that they're very generous. Between my Bday gift from them and an expected Xmas gift, I've already a purchased a 3-piece suit (a cheapy on sale at SYMS) and tailoring for it and should have plenty left over for nice shoes.

I hate to be the humbug of the group, however, I am going to be. I don't ask for anything. I'm a big boy, and I buy what I want throughout the year. For me the holidays is about the less fortunate. I spend most of my time and $ donating...

I'm not asking for anything this year, as I just got married and have barely finished opening those gifts, but I still did a list of $25 items.

I don't think it's beign a humbug to not ask for anything and to give your time and money to charities. Seems quite the opposite, in fact.

In my family, people like to buy one another gifts (we exchange names) so having some inexpensive items picked out helps each other out. And, frankly, my wife demands a wish list from me.
