speaking of checks [IMG] i have a question:

where i live, if you pay with a personal check, you'd probably be laughed at. there are a lot of scoundrels out there who issue bad checks or worse, forged checks. how does the payment of personal check in the united states be considered a safe method of payment?

Driver's license, work ID, credit card, back-up credit card, debit card, insurance card, and a folded up C note. I only carry a small card case, so that I can keep it in my front pocket, which is a lot more comfortable to me.

    I don't use a wallet, I use a slim leather cards/cash clip... So I carry cash, Amex/Visa, drivers license

I use a similar devise with a Mastercard, debit card, DL, Insurance Card, BJs card and a few extra business cards. Most of my business cards live in a specific case. I also have a travel wallet that houses all of my airline/hotel/car rental etc cards.

It was designed as an inner breast pocket wallet.

I use a slim Coach wallet that I found for $5 at C21. It generally contains AMEX Gold, PayPal debit card, Wachovia debit card, maybe a little cash, driver's license and Hofstra Law ID.

There is no way I would consider check payment an elegant or gentlemanly way of conducting business, unless you are buying a yacht.

It's a waste of time and reeks of someone who (choose one or more):

    -is techno-phobic
-has already ruined their own credit before
-is afraid that they cannot control a buying binge (come on! are you really that weak?)
-has barely enough courage to leave the house, no courage left over for waaaa fraud risk

I carry my Canadian credit card, my Korean chequing card, my Foreigner ID card, my home address in Korean on laminated paper, my health care card, and my SK Telecom member's card (get lots of free stuff with it). If I'm flying I'll also bring my Star Alliance member's card with me.

Oh, and there may or may not be a few free beer coupons from a bar I frequent.

I carry both a yellow leather Coach magnetic money clip, and a red leather Jack Spade card holder.

    The clip holds:
    cash
    transit card
state ID/DL (depending on whether I will be driving or not)

    The case holds:
    student ID
    primary CC
    ATM card
    Debit card
    Zip car card
any claim tickets (dry cleaner, cobbler...)

Sometimes I travel light and slip the CC in the clip

I previously carried a lot more in a passport style wallet in either my inside breast pocket, or in a messenger bag(if I was not wearing a jacket). One day I was working in the store alone, and someone snuck in the stockroom and took the wallet from my bag. Before the end of my shift they had shopped at a dozen stores, rented a limo, and gone to a strip club. In the end I was not liable for any of the charges, but even still I carried only cash and ID for a while afterwards. I am off the cash economy now, but everything I do not need stays at home.

P.S. I did consider writing checks after seeing those trite Visa check card ads the first time

Among the usual stuff, I also like to carry pictures of my cousin Lucy's husband's uncle and also those of a former family attorney.

Hint: You probably carry them as well!

I use a very slim wallet which contains:
    1 driving license/id
    1 AMEX
    1 ATM/bank card
1 Visa, Discover or Mastercard (in case the Amex is not accepted) These rotate. (it's bad if accounts are flagged as inactive)
    2-3 business cards
    1 subway pass
    at most $100 cash

tons of train tickets (clearing them out now) and a student rail card
a bunch of receipts and ticket stubs (mostly supermarkets but I have one from ronnie scotts and one for a show at the royal academy of arts, must not have cleaned my wallet out in a long while, that was in january.)

Checks? Do they figure out the cents portion with their trusty abacus?
