What's going on with these shoes?

Hi,

New member here.

I have these CAT shoes.

Can anyone please tell what kind of leather this is? & how should I maintain it?

Can anyone please tell me why they have begun to discolor after some overzealous cleaning? Can they be restored to their original condition? You can see some lighter patches on the shoes and a rougher top.

CAT usually uses full-grain leather, but I very doubt it comes from the high-quality hide. I would use Saphir BDC line: lotion, creme, wax and avoid renovateur.

Regarding coming out color on your pair of boots... probably you used aggressive cleaning agent.

Thank you for the reply.

This shoe used to have tiny beautiful pebbles throughout which seem to be disappearing now.

I tried a shoe cream from kiwi few days back but it brought on a horrendous shine to the shoe. This shoe has always had this matt finish. I too think the leather looks too dry like any skin but how can I use any product on this while maininting its matt look?

I don't want to loose these shoes, I've worn them for five years now and it's only when I started getting them cleaned recently that they got this look.

Well, 5 years it is quite a time. I'm sure the leather is dry and you need to apply lotion (kiwi, Saphir whatever you feel comfortable with, but it has to be used once a year at least). The lotion soaks in and doesn't produce any shining.

Thank you so much for the help. I'll be trying the lotion.

Out of curiosity would a drying Vaseline lotion which my wife uses for her skin work for the shoe :) ? She always tells me how gentle and non-sticky it is.

Vaseline is a petrolium product. I would suggest sticking to products for your shoes.
I personally use Bickmore 4 or leather lotion for heavy conditioning (doesn't add shine), and Venetian Shoe Cream (VSC) for maintenance and shine.
